The commencement of clinical services at the OMC Medical Centre is a great milestone in the history of Offa, which is the second major city in Kwara State. The idea of a medical centre was initially conceived as a donation to the Kwara State Government through the General Hospital Offa following the insufficient medical response during the ill-fated armed robbery incidence of April 2018 where over 33 people were killed and many injured.
However, during the official commissioning of the OMC Medical Centre on 24th Dec 2022 the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq encouraged Offa Metropolitan Club to deploy its private sector expertise and excellence to run the facility, expressing the view that it would be lot more beneficial and serve as a model for other communities and states of the federation.
The ultra modern medical facility built two years ago at a cost of 350 million Naira which is now worth over N1 billion Naira with the medical equipments and furnishings that have been put in place since the completion of physical structure since 2022. The Centre now position’s Offa as a pioneer and pacesetter in quality and affordable community health care delivery in Nigeria. The effort, which entirely is the initiative of Offa Metropolitan Club, underscores the resilience, communal, and can-do spirit of Offa people. The vision was conceived under the leadership of OMC’s pioneer President, Dr Sarah Alade OON, with the full support of the entire membership of the club. The current President, Chief Rafiu Lawal-Rabana SAN, since his assumption of office, has vigorously rallied the members of the club to achieve the milestone of the commencement of clinical services in the facility.
While addressing the audience during the brief commencement ceremony on Friday 1st Nov 2024, Chief RA Lawal-Rabana SAN stated that the medical centre will provide healthcare treatments that are accessible, affordable, and timely for the people of Offa and by extension also serve neighbouring communities and states in search of quality medicare. He equally unveiled the plan to offer free basic care to the first 100 patients who visit the facility.
The club stated it has graciously set aside a significant pool of funds to offer subsidised healthcare treatment through the OMC Medical Insurance Scheme on an ongoing basis for deserving members of the community. The event was attended by esteemed community leaders including the Eesa of Offa, High Chief Yunus Bukoye; Ojomu of Offa, High Chief Joseph Bayo Akinola along with other traditional honourary titles holders in their entourage, the CMD Offa General Hospital, heads of relevant institutions, and security agencies in Offa.
